A place is a
dwelling, a dwelling that a person can reside or hide. Jesus, the saviour has
proved in scripture to be many things. He is the lion, the ancient of days, the
beginning and the end and many others. Today, let us look into scripture to see
how Jesus is a place. If you see Him as a place, you will begin to see how He is
the place for your refuge, strength, joy etcetera. Let us take a look at this
scripture.
Micah 4:8 “And thou, O tower of
the flock, the strong hold of
the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the
kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem”.
In this scripture,
God pinpoints certain ideas. He presents the idea of a “tower”, “stronghold”,
“first dominion” and most importantly “the coming of the kingdom”. These ideas
are worthy of note since they bear a great significance with Jesus. There is no
great stronghold like that of Christ. When Jesus was on earth in the flesh,
John preached that the people should repent because the kingdom of God is at
hand.
After Jesus arose
from the dead, the bible now says that the kingdom is within us. This means
that the kingdom has now come to us, the children of the heavenly Jerusalem.
Let us now take a
deeper look into how Jesus is actually this dwelling, tower and stronghold.
In the book of Genesis 49:10, bible states that “The sceptre shall
not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be”.
Take a look, it is
stated clearly that “until Shiloh comes”, the sceptre and a lawgiver will not
depart from Judah. This means that once Shiloh comes, the sceptre and the
lawgiver will depart from Israel. We see clearly that the kingship of Israel
was on the tribe of Judah making David and the others king until “Shiloh”
comes.
This brings us to
the question of what Shiloh is. In the book of 1Samuel 1:3 And this man went up out of his
city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and
Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.
This means that
Shiloh is a place. It is the place where the Israelites in the days of Eli go
to camp and worship the lord. It was in this place that Hannah asked for Samuel
and the lord gave her him.
This raises the
question once again that since Shiloh is a place, why did the prophecy of God
state that until Shiloh comes, a lawgiver will not depart from Israel? If
Shiloh is already a place on earth where the people go to worship, how can it
come again?
It then creates the impression that Shiloh is a physical place
representing a spiritual entity. This relates us to the book of Hebrews 10:1 which states that “For the law
having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very
image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by
year continually make the comers thereunto perfect”.
We see here that the law and in other words all the Old Testament
practices only has a shadow of good things to come. They were not the actual
things. They only come to symbolise someone that will be manifested in the
physical. Before a real image comes, its shadow shows off first, and when the
image appears, the shadow disappears. Also, the fact that bible says “Shiloh will
come” means that it is possibly a human being who will arise, walk and come
into this earth.
Why would the sceptre and a lawgiver depart from Judah when He comes? Because
He comes with a higher authority, kingship and rulership that will surpass the
authority of that of the tribe of Judah.
Looking into these truths, it is crystal clear that it is no other
person than the one in the person of “Jesus Christ of Nazareth” who is this
Shiloh supposed to come. He, himself is from the tribe of Judah, and once He
arrives, he changes the Levitical priesthood and from then the kingship of
Judah has stumbled because a greater authority also from the tribe of Judah in
the flesh has come. He is Jesus our place of refuge.
Let us look at this scripture that states the change that occurs in the
Levitical priesthood upon the coming of Jesus. Although it does not pinpoint
the change in authority of the tribe of Judah, it only states the change in
authority in the priesthood of Levi. For the change in authority in the tribe
of Judah, we all know nowadays that the tribe of Judah is no longer holding the
sceptre of kingship in the land of Israel.
Hebrews 7:11. “If therefore perfection were by the
Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further
need was there that another
priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the
order of Aaron?
12. For the priesthood being changed, there is
made of necessity a change also of the law”.
You can see that there was a change in every sector of Israel upon the
coming of Jesus. This is one of the changes that the prophecy state will happen
when Shiloh comes. There is no longer a lawgiver, but a grace giver.
Does only this qualify us to say that Jesus is a place? Wait a minute;
there are other clear cut scriptures that point it out clearly without the need
for any long references.
In Proverbs 18:10 scripture reveals that “The name
of the LORD is a strong tower:
the righteous runs into it, and is safe”.
Who is the lord? In 1Corinthians_1:9 we see that “God is faithful, by
whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord”.
This means that Jesus
is Lord. Meanwhile proverbs states that the name of the lord “Jesus” is a
strong tower. What is a tower? A tower is a place, a very high and strong
building. Here, we see that this tower provides refuge for the righteous that
runs into it. You can only run into a place, and that place is Jesus, the name
of the lord.
Not all, the psalmist
also puts it this way in Psalm 61:3 “For thou hast been a shelter for me; and a strong tower from the enemy”. This is exactly
it. We can see here that the psalmist is referring to an individual being a
tower. This declaration relates to no one else but Jesus.
Jesus is our refuge.
He is our hope and shield. He is the place where we hide and fear no evil. When
you are in Jesus, you have nothing to fear because He is a place of refuge. If
you are yet to believe in Jesus, it is high time you see the revelation in this
scripture and confess Jesus now as your Lord and saviour who has cleansed you
from all your unrighteousness.
According to Romans 10:9-10, if you believe
and confess Jesus, you will be saved. It takes nothing more than believe and
confessing to have a full right of your protection in Christ Jesus.
